Tennis Valley Australia Chinese Friendship Tournament - North Shore Times Report

On 3rd April 2011 Tennis Valley and the Australia Chinese Society held their inaugural tennis tournament. David Keogh (the organiser) invited the North Shore Times (newspaper) to cover the event.  This weeks issue of the newspaper gave a full-page coverage with lots of photos. Great publicity for the Club... but more important we raised $2,200 for a donation to the Asian Animal Foundation... with the specific purpose of stopping cruel treatment of the Chinese Moon Bear. The 58 participants also had lots of fun.

Phaung Daw Oo Orphanage Trivia Night

On Saturday 7th May 2011 we’ll be holding a charity trivia night from 8pm at

Tennis Valley
325A Eastern Valley Way Chatswood

We’ll enjoy our trivia and our conversation and company and we will learn  about the work of the Phaung Daw Oo orphanage. Kerry and the staff at our club will look after and feed us well and drinks will be available at the bar.

Three years ago Cylcone Nargis roared into Burma. Days of torrential rain, high winds and storms left nearly 140,000 casualties. Many children were orphaned. The monks at Phaung Daw Oo monastery are now caring for about 7,000 children affected by the devastation of this huge cyclone.

Lovely Rebecca Moore, who graced our Eastern Lounge in March is a dedicated supporter of the orphanage, and impressed us with her talk about the orphanage and how we can help. Now is our chance.

Rebecca will join us at the trivia night and show us and tell us more about the monks and the kids they are supporting. And she will sing for us too. Check her web site at  http://www.rebeccamooremusic.com/ and look at the Burmese orphans link.

We welcome tables of contestants, or you can make up or join a table on the night. Why not make up a table from your work? Cost is $28 per person. Please indicate numbers (for catering purposes) by phoning

Book NOW! for the March 2011 Eastern Lounge show!

After a blistering start to 2011 in February, the North Shore's Best LIVE Music venue, Eastern Lounge (within the Tennis Valley club - 325a Eastern Valley Way) hosts its next show on Friday March 11 (doors open at 7pm)... and it's set to be another ripper!

The near packed house was stunned with the quality of our first show this year with Peter Northcote and Brydon Stace in particular just amazing. This dynamic duo has since been booked for a national tour of the Bat Out of Hell album and will be appearing at the State Theatre in May! (You heard them here first!)

Our March line-up is also guaranteed to thrill. On Friday the 11th you'll see:

Ava Torch & The Boybirds - classic cabaret pop!
Claude Hay - a one-man swamp blues band; and
Rebecca Moore - folk rock pianist and guitarist, fresh from the Sydney Opera House to you!

Go to www.easternlounge.com.au for more artist info. and music videos

Eastern Lounge continues to surprise. Every act is different, but you can bet that the quality of each artist at every show will be outstanding. Relax with friends at this warm and welcoming café-style venue after a long week, or dance to the sounds of some of Sydney's best musicians.

With a 6-piece band headlining this month's show, entry is just $18 at the door, OR you can pre-book a table and pay just $15 per head... still great value for an amazing night of live music. Bring your own snacks and enjoy 'an indoor picnic' but please note that Eastern Lounge is a licensed premises, so all drinks must be purchased from the bar.

See you on March 11... and please, spread the word.
